Denmark summons Israeli ambassador

Denmark has summoned the Israeli ambassador in Copenhagen in protest at recent attacks on clinics run by a Danish charity in Gaza.

"We shall summon the Israeli ambassador because it (the bombing of the clinics) should not take place," Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller told reporters on Tuesday.

Israeli warplanes bombed three ambulances belonging to DanChurchAid late Monday, despite being clearly marked with red crosses and the caption "Mobile Clinic".

The ambulances, which were being used to "treat and transport Palestinians wounded in the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip", had been parked by the Union of Healthcare headquarters in Gaza.

DanChurchAid said there were no casualties.

"We are deeply chocked that the Israeli air strikes directly prevent the humanitarian aid effort," Reuters quoted secretary general of DanChurchAid, Henrik Stubkjaer, as saying on Tuesday.

Since December 27, when Israel launched "Operation Cast Lead" on the coastal strip, the army has targeted homes, ambulances, mosques and medics alike.

The attacks has led to the death of 660 people and wounded 2950 more.

The recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the latest of a series which began when world powers created Israel in 1948 under the Zionist slogan of a 'land without a people and a people without a land'.

The establishment of Israel in the Middle East was carried out in compensation for the hardships and suffering imposed on the Jews of Europe due to anti-Semitism in the continent.

Zionists benefited by gaining power over the native land of the Palestinians, but the establishment and the subsequent terror attacks against the Palestinian population gave rise to the philosophy of resistance and in recent years armed retaliation.

According to Tel Aviv, however, the war on Gaza is aimed at ending rocket attacks against Israeli settlers, toppling Hamas and preventing the resistance group from rearming.

Hamas, on the other hand, demands a cessation of Israeli attacks and the opening of the Gaza border -- which has been closed due to the 18-month blockade imposed on the strip by Tel Aviv.
